The Delhi government on Tuesday issued an order asking luxury Taj Mansingh Hotel to have its rooms and premises be placed at the disposal of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) for using it as an attached Covid care center. Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia visited Covid facility centre at Surya Hotel. Mr Kejriwal said that the facility should be operational with 120 beds in the next 2-3 days and around 250-300 beds to be installed in this facility in the coming days.

The national capital on Tuesday recorded a total of 437 deaths, which includes 93 deaths in the last 24 hours. With 1,859 new cases, total Covid cases jumped to 44,688. Of the total 44,688 cases in Delhi, 16,500 patients have recovered. The Delhi government has projected a massive requirement of beds in view of the growing Covid cases in the city. The SGRH was earlier declared a Covid facility. The order also said that the hospital would be responsible for proper disposal of biomedical waste generated at the hotel. “All hotel staff will be provided with protective gear and basic training to handle Covid patients,” it added.

Ambulance for transfer of patients will be the hospital’s responsibility, while food, housekeeping service and disinfecting of the premises will be done by the hotel. The charges for using the rooms will be collected by the hospital, which will then hand it over to the hotel, the order said. If the need arises, the hospital can arrange for the stay of its doctors,

nurses and paramedical staff at the hotel itself. The hotel and hospital management can decide the rates mutually. Sources in the SGRH said they have received the government’s order.

Following directions of Mr Shah, all hospitals in Delhi today complied with the decision taken at a meeting on June 14, by speeding up cremation/last rites of bodies of Covid-19 patients. Last rites of the remaining 36 deceased will be done by today as their kin are not in Delhi at present.
