Headless body of a BJP leader of Chhattisgarh, who had gone missing three days ago from his village, was on Tuesday found in a jungle in his native district of Surajpur, police said.

Shiv Charan Kasi (60), chairman of local block unit of farmers’ wing of BJP, had gone missing from his village of Pasal in Surajpur district in Chhattisgarh three days ago.

His headless body was found in the jungle near Redi Pahari Chowk under Bishalpur police station in the district on

Tuesday morning, Chhattisgarh police said. “Kin of the deceased identified the body from his clothes”, the investigating officer said.

The incident sent a shock wave in the region. Police suspected that land dispute may be the cause of the gruesome murder of the BJP leader. “But, the probe will alone establish the motive behind the BJP leader’s murder”, police said.

After Kasi went missing, his family members suspected he was killed, and claimed they heard a gun shot in the village that night, the official said. They had also alleged that a person from the village might have killed Kasi over a land-related dispute, police said.

Based on suspicion, Ramkumar Sahu (52) and his son Rohit Sahu (28) were questioned and they confessed to have killed Kasi over a land dispute, said the police.

Prima facie, no bullet wound was found on the body and it seems the accused attacked the victim with a sharp-edged weapon. Further investigation was underway.
