The anti-corruption wing of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday, arrested a station house officer (SHO) and two constables of the Delhi police while allegedly receiving a bribe of `2 lakh from a complainant.

The arrested public servants have been identified as S.S. Chahal, the SHO at Vijay Vihar police station in Rohini, while the two constables have been identified as Badri and Jitendra. They were arrested while receiving the bribe in an operation carried out by the CBI, sources in the Central probe agency said.

“The trio had demanded a bribe of `5 lakh from the complainant, who was facing a land dispute. The complainant was constructing a boundary wall when some people claimed the plot ownership, following which a dispute ensued and the PCR was called,” sources said.

When the matter reached the police station, the SHO allegedly demanded a bribe of `5 lakh, which was brought down to `2 lakh during negotiations, they added.

The information was verified and a team was tasked to catch the policemen red-handed. “CBI laid a trap and caught the constables accepting part payment of the bribe amount of `2 lakh on behalf of the SHO,” said officials of the agency.

Later CBI officers searched the residential premises of all three accused in Delhi which led to the recovery of incriminating documents. During questioning, the probe agency learned that SHO Chahal was actively involved in demanding and accepting bribe through constables. Later, all of them were arrested.

Recently, the CBI had arrested a sub-inspector of the Delhi police’s economic offences wing for allegedly receiving a bribe of `4 lakh to manage the case of a complainant dealt by him.

Sanjeev Kumar, the inspector of the economic offences wing, was nabbed by the CBI redhanded while allegedly receiving the bribe from the complainant.

The agency had received a complaint that Kumar was demanding bribe from the complainant to manage a case being probed by him. On receiving the information, the CBI planned a trap operation during which Kumar was nabbed by the agency while allegedly receiving the bribe.
