New BJP chief fails to keep flock together

● THERE IS strong resentment among BJP councillors in Rohini zone as they claim that at the eleventh hour the party tried to change the standing committee nominee, but failed to do it

Newly appointed Delhi BJP chief Adesh Kumar Gupta failed to bring together the warring factions within the party’s city unit in the run-up to the elections for zones and standing committees to be held later this month with a rebel candidate filing his nomination for the post of zone committee chairman.

Earlier, party councillor and Leader of House in North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) Tilakraj Kataria resigned from BJP and the civic body.

A BJP councillor, Poonam, who won election as an independent and later joined BJP, had filed her nomination as AAP candidate against BJP candidate Jayender

Dabas for the post of Narela zone chairman of NDMC.

With Ms Poonam joining hands with AAP, Mr Dabas will face a tough fight and need to keep the BJP councillors together. Sources in BJP said that a couple of BJP councillors may sabotage Mr Dabas’ chance of becoming the chairman of Narela zone.

“With a razor thin margin of 11 (BJP) to 10 (AAP), Mr Dabas, in an immediate requirement, needs to keep his flock together. It is learnt that a councillor, who joined BJP, is unhappy with the treatment he received. Even a BJP councillor is ready to vote against Mr Dabas,” said a BJP insider.

A BJP councillor in NDMC told this newspaper that on paper Mr

Dabas’ victory is visible. However, only one councillor voting against him will change the game.

“There are some individuals, who are not against Mr Dabas, but to send a message to state leadership may sabotage the party. A couple of councillors told us that they will vote against the BJP candidate,” he added.

Mr Gupta, however, is confident that Mr Dabas will win smoothly in the June 26 polls.

“BJP will win the Narela zone comfortably and we have no doubt about it,” said Mr Gupta.

Similarly, there is strong resentment among BJP councillors in Rohini zone as they claim that at the eleventh hour the party tried to change the standing committee nominee, but failed to do it.
