With corona cases continuing to rise sharply in Delhi, home minister Amit Shah has asked senior officials to work out a new containment strategy for the national capital following a meeting with Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday.
Officials claimed that one of the key reasons for rapid spread of corona in the national capital is that those advised home quarantine are not following the directions strictly.
Hence, both the home ministry and the Delhi lieutenant-governor were now working out a detailed plan as to how a strong containment strategy can be put in place, particularly in hotspot areas.
One of the possibilities is that some extra security forces can now be deployed in the containment zones to ensure that movement of people here can be regulated completely.
As of now it has been observed that there is major movement of people and services even in containment zones which is leading to a sharp increase in the number of corona cases in Delhi.
In addition, wherever possible some cases could also be shifted to the institutional quarantine centres though this will not be mandatory in all cases.
“We are working closely with the Delhi government and looking at various possibilities as to how a fool proof mechanism can be put in place to ensure that the number of hot spots in the national capital don’t increase and stay within limits. But we feel that cases could increase upto 1 lakh by the end of this month,” a senior home ministry official said.
It has also been decided that senior officials from ministries like home and health will hold review meetings with the Delhi government top brass at least once in 48 hours to monitor the situation in the national capital.
