New Delhi: Union home minister Amit Shah on Saturday visited a newly created ovid19 care facility with over 10,000 beds in Delhi and reviewed arrangemen­ts. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal accompanie­d Mr Shah during his visit to the the biggest such facility in Delhi. ■

“Visited the ‘Sardar Patel Covid Care Centre’ in Delhi to review its preparedne­ss. I thank Radha Soami Satsang Beas and all others who helped to create this huge facility. This 10,000-bed centre would provide huge relief to the people of Delhi,” Mr Shah tweeted.

As cases of Covid continue to rise and cross 80,000 mark, a serologica­l survey to undertake a comprehens­ive analysis of the spread of Covid-19 in Delhi commenced in some parts of the city on Saturday. Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said that increased number of beds, increased testing or isolation, oximeters to home Isolation patients, plasma therapy trials, survey & screening are our five weapons to combat the Covid spread in the city.

The Delhi recorded 2,948 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total case count to 80,188 and 66 more deaths also reported. As many as 49,301 patients have recovered, while there are 28,329 active cases. A total of 4,78,336 tests have been conducted till date — 25,175 tests per million population.

As part of the serologica­l survey, blood samples of 20,000 people will be tested to ascertain the presence of antibodies. The exercise will be carried out jointly by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Delhi government and will be held till July 10.

Talking about the serologica­l survey, Mr Kejriwal said that the government has started a massive serologica­l survey to understand the Covid spread, in which a door-to-door survey will be done. Center, meanwhile, bolsters efforts for Covid management in Delhi. “Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has supplied diagnostic material for carrying out 4.7 lakh RT-PCR tests to the 12 functional labs in Delhi, till date. It has also provided 1.57 lakh RNA extraction kits essential for carrying out the test and 2.84 lakh VTMs (Viral Transport Medium) and swabs for collection of Covid samples. Looking at the sudden surge of cases, ICMR has approved Antigen-based Rapid tests and supplied 50,000 such Antigen Rapid Test Kits to Delhi. ICMR has provided all these test kits free of cost to Delhi,” said a press statement of the union health ministry adding that the Centre has also procured and distribute­d 11.11 lakh N95 masks, 6.81 lakh PPE kits, 44.80 lakhs HCQ tablets. 425 ventilator­s were allocated to Delhi and all have been delivered to various hospitals. NCDC, under the Centre, has been supporting Delhi through technical guidance on all aspects of Covid surveillan­ce and response strategy, it said,

Union health ministry said that Sardar Patel Covid Centre ‘’ at Chhattarpu­r, a 2,000-bedded facility, to be operated by medical and other personnel of CAPF. “A 1,000bedded new Greenfield hospital constructe­d by DRDO and manned by doctors and paramedica­l staff from the Army would start functionin­g next week from an area near Dhaula Kuan. This new field hospital would have a referral relationsh­ip with AIIMS.
