Mumbai police restricts movement of citizens

The Mumbai police has restricted movement of people for essential purposes, including salons and groceries, to a radius of 2 km, amidst rising numbers of Covid-19 virus and the step-by-step reopening of the city. The police issued a new set of guidelines in light of blatant disregard to the precautionary measures by several people.

Hence, the people will be allowed to go beyond the radius of 2 km only in case of medical emergencies. A strict curfew would be put in place from 9pm to 5am, with police stating that those found violating any of the guidelines will face prosecution and their vehicles will be impounded. The police notice stated that while many activities have been permitted under the ‘Mission Begin Again’ by the state government, making the movement of people easier, the threat of Covid-19 still persists in the city. It is absolutely necessary that we all follow the norms of personal safety and social distancing.

“Many people have been found violating these norms, thereby endangering their own health as well as that of others in their vicinity. All movement outdoors should be restricted for essential activities only. While moving outdoors, wearing face masks is compulsory,” said Ashok Pranay, Mumbai police spokesperson.
