Nepal House session shut as Oli tries to save his govt
Kathmandu, July 2: Nepal Prime Minister K.P. Sharma on Thursday averted his government’s collapse by getting President Bidhya Devi Bhandari to approve his Cabinet’s proposal to prorogue Parliament, where he faced almost certain defeat in a planned no-confidence vote.
This move comes amid an escalating dispute between Mr Oli and former PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda”, whose faction dominates the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and which had demanded Mr Oli’s resignation. On Wednesday, at a NCP standing committee meeting, 31 of its 44 members demanded Mr Oli’s resignation.
