As many states now going in for convalescent plasma therapy for Covid-19 patients, temples, gurudwaras and religious organisations are now reaching out to Covid-19 recovers, asking them to donate plasma and also to counsel Covid-19 patients and their family members. Temples including those of the Valmiki Samaj, Arya Samaj, Jain Samaj, Buddhists, religious organisations like Isckon and Gurudwaras are reaching out to Covid19 recovers through priests, sevadars, devotees and volunteers with the request after a suggestion by the Vishwa Hindu

Parishad (VHP). While Delhi opened India’s first plasma bank, convalescent plasma therapy is being done in states like Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh to Covid19 patients, which have shown promising results.

The VHP has also asked religious places and religious institutions that all those willing to donate plasma to tell them to adhere to the medical guidelines and follow their doctors’ advise before donating their plasma. For those Covid-19 recovers, who cannot donate due to some medical conditions, religious places and religious institutions are suggesting them to volunteer for counseling to Covid-19 patients and their families. “For someone who has recovered, it is easier to counsel about the do’s and don’ts for the Covid-19 patient and his family. If your hear from someone who had gone through the same situation as you are going through, you find it more convincing and can relatable. Family members or even the patient can go into depression sometimes but when they listen from recovered patients, it helps in building their confidence and will power and that’s why we want religious places and religious institutions to do their bit in this case like they have been doing for other causes throughout the lockdown,” said VHP’s Vagish Issar.
