- AGE CORRESPONDENT

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) on Thursday voiced uncertainty over the holding of the chartered accountants examinations that are scheduled to commence from July 29 as it sought some time from the top court to come back with final word on the fate of the exam.

“Now you are saying, what we said in the last hearing, ‘Be open minded and help the students’”, said Justice A.M.Khanwilkar heading the bench also comprising Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice Sanjiv Khanhna as senior lawyer Ramji Srinavasan told the court that the changing Covid conditions were dodging the certainty over the holding of the exams on schedule. Srinivasan also referred to some state governments extending the lockdown.

The court gave time to ICAI till July 10, 2020 — the next date of hearing — to come back with its decision.

In the last hearing of the matter on June 29, 2020, the ICAI had extended till July 7, 2020, the deadline for the candidates to choose their examination centres.

The ICAI was to come before the top court today with modified notification incorporating all the directions.
