NEW SHIPPING SERVICE BETWEEN KOLKATA & CHATTOGRAM PORTS

A new regular shipping service between India and Bangladesh was launched on Friday to augment trade between the two neighbouri­ng countries, using the sea route for Indian exports with another scheduled in a fortnight.

Bound for Chittagong Port through Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route, it was started from Kolkata Dock System of Syama

Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMP, Kolkata) by Zim Integrated Services in associatio­n with Bengal Tiger Lines.

In the maiden voyage, the vessel, M.V Asiatic Moon (Singapore Flag), is expected to carry 300 containers of Indian Exports to Bangladesh. The primary goods that are exported are Ferro Metal Alloys and Garments. This is also the biggest vessel by size to sail between Kolkata and Chittagong till date.
