A new reg­u­lar ship­ping ser­vice be­tween In­dia and Bangladesh was launched on Fri­day to aug­ment trade be­tween the two neigh­bour­ing coun­tries, us­ing the sea route for In­dian ex­ports with an­other sched­uled in a fort­night.

Bound for Chit­tagong Port through Indo-Bangladesh Pro­to­col Route, it was started from Kolkata Dock Sys­tem of Syama

Prasad Mook­er­jee Port, Kolkata (SMP, Kolkata) by Zim In­te­grated Ser­vices in as­so­ci­a­tion with Ben­gal Tiger Lines.

In the maiden voy­age, the ves­sel, M.V Asi­atic Moon (Sin­ga­pore Flag), is ex­pected to carry 300 con­tain­ers of In­dian Ex­ports to Bangladesh. The pri­mary goods that are ex­ported are Ferro Metal Al­loys and Gar­ments. This is also the big­gest ves­sel by size to sail be­tween Kolkata and Chit­tagong till date.
