Scribe undergoing Covid-19 treatment at AIIMS ends life
A 37-year-old journalist with a Hindi daily undergoing treatment for Covid19 at the AIIMS Trauma Centre died after allegedly jumping off the fourth floor of the hospital building on Monday afternoon. The journalist, Tarun Sisodia, was a resident of Northeast Delhi’s Bhajanpura.
The police said that the incident took place at around 2.00 pm and the man was rushed to the hospital’s ICU where doctors tried to revive him, a doctor said on condition of anonymity. According to DCP (Southwest) Devender Arya, the journalist was admitted to the Covid-19 ward at the Trauma Centre on June 24 after testing positive for the virus. Meanwhile, a AIIMS spokesperson stated that Sisodia was admitted in the hospital on June 24 and he was making significant recovery from his Covid symptoms.
“While he was in the hospital for the treatment of Covid-19, he was a experiencing bout of disorientation for which he was seen by neurologist and psychiatrist and put on medication. The family members were regularly counselled
regarding his condition,” he said.
“At around 1.55 pm on Monday, Sisodia ran out of the ward where he was admitted. Hospital attendants ran after him and tried to stop him. Sisodia ran to the fourth floor, where he broke a windowpane and jumped out.
“He was intubated and resuscitation was tried, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at 3.35 pm,” the spokesperson further stated.
Union health minister Harshvardhan also tweeted, “I ordered AIIMS director to immediately constitute an official inquiry into this incident, following which a high-level committee has been set up and shall submit its report within 48 hours. My deep condolences to his family and media community that is shaken by the tragic loss.
