Scribe undergoing Covid-19 treatment at AIIMS ends life

A 37-year-old journalist with a Hindi daily undergoing treatment for Covid19 at the AIIMS Trauma Centre died after allegedly jumping off the fourth floor of the hospital building on Monday afternoon. The journalist, Tarun Sisodia, was a resident of Northeast Delhi’s Bhajanpura.

The police said that the incident took place at around 2.00 pm and the man was rushed to the hospital’s ICU where doctors tried to revive him, a doctor said on condition of anonymity. According to DCP (Southwest) Devender Arya, the journalist was admitted to the Covid-19 ward at the Trauma Centre on June 24 after testing positive for the virus. Meanwhile, a AIIMS spokespers­on stated that Sisodia was admitted in the hospital on June 24 and he was making significan­t recovery from his Covid symptoms.

“While he was in the hospital for the treatment of Covid-19, he was a experienci­ng bout of disorienta­tion for which he was seen by neurologis­t and psychiatri­st and put on medication. The family members were regularly counselled

regarding his condition,” he said.

“At around 1.55 pm on Monday, Sisodia ran out of the ward where he was admitted. Hospital attendants ran after him and tried to stop him. Sisodia ran to the fourth floor, where he broke a windowpane and jumped out.

“He was intubated and resuscitat­ion was tried, but unfortunat­ely, he succumbed to his injuries at 3.35 pm,” the spokespers­on further stated.

Union health minister Harshvardh­an also tweeted, “I ordered AIIMS director to immediatel­y constitute an official inquiry into this incident, following which a high-level committee has been set up and shall submit its report within 48 hours. My deep condolence­s to his family and media community that is shaken by the tragic loss.
