‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar shooting complete’

- LIPIKA VARMA

Ratna Pathak Shah is an unforgettable name in both film and theatre, with multiple fantastic performances across both fields. Her last film Thappad saw her playing a strong mother, and her next film Jayeshbhai Jordaar will also see her playing mother to male lead Ranveer Singh.

When asked about the status of the film, Shah reveals that while the shooting is over, she isn’t sure if there is any patchwork left to do. While the film was originally set to release on

Gandhi Jayanti this year, the actress says that she has not heard from the production house about an alternate release date.

“The movie theatres will open last because it seems to be the last priority,” she says.

Switching gears to awards and accolades, Shah reveals that she does not support competing with others in the industry. “In any ways, I cannot stand competitive awarding and film festivals because I do not understand the idea. I find it very hard to trust any kind of award that is fought over. The Nobel prize for example, it is hard to believe that these are the only people who are worth appreciating,” she opines, adding that she would not be surprised if awards were rigged.

“I would not have any personal information about that, but the fact is that the same kinds of people keep getting awards over and over again. The award ceremony itself has become the only value in the process. It has become a chance for people to show off in various ways. I don’t think that is the purpose of acting and filmmaking. I really wish we didn’t have to do that,” she asserts.
