BJP chief talks tough, says won’t tolerate indiscipline

- SHASHI BHUSHAN

In a major policy decision ahead of the appointments of new office bearers, the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party decided that leaders and workers involved in anti-party activity will not be considered for any post during organisational restructuring.

Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta told this newspaper that there is no place for indiscipline in the organisation and those working against the party or its official candidate will not be considered for any organisational responsibility in the new team.

“Only disciplined, hard working workers or leaders will be considered for different positions in the organisation from block, district, or state level. Leaders or workers who acted against party candidates in the Assembly polls in February are not considered for appointment at block, district, or state level posts,” said Mr Gupta.

The process of reorganisation of Delhi BJP set in motion from Monday with 35 teams consisting two members, who started the process of shortlisting

names of local leaders to be appointed as presidents of party’s block units by taking opinion of prominent workers from each block.

The shortlisting process has begun from July 6 and ends on July 9.

According to Mr Gupta, all the shortlisted names will go under tight security to find out their involvement in anti-party activities.

“We have enough feedback to identify leaders and workers who dented party candidates in the polls and they will be punished by being deprived of any post in the organisational restructuring.

“The state office bearers will be appointed after finalising the names of block and district presidents. The whole exercise is expected to be wrapped up by July end,” he added.

Sources said that the same mechanism will also work for appointment of state office bearers and leaders who were involved or have faced action or punishment for anti-party activity in the past.

“Criteria for state office bearers will be similar to block and district presidents. Only disciplined workers will be considered and past acts of seniors will also be under scrutiny,” said a senior party leader aware of the developments.

The national BJP leadership has deputed general secretary Arun Singh and BJP Mahila Morcha president Vijaya Rahatkar to supervise the restructuring exercise of party' Delhi unit.
