West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday met Union home minister Amit Shah to discuss the prevailing law and order situation in the state and how the local administration was dating with the corona situation in the state. The immediate reason was the death of BJP MLA Devendra Nath Roy, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances a few days ago in north Bengal’s Uttar Dinajpur area.

Earlier, Mr Dhankar in a tweet had stated that he would be meeting the Union home minister to discuss “worrisome situation” in the state. Senior home ministry officials claimed that during the meeting, governor Dhankar briefed Mr Shah about the prevailing law and order, political and Covid-19 situation in West Bengal.

“Would be discussing with Union Home Minister at noon today West Bengal worrisome situation,’’ Mr Dhankar said on the micro blogging site.

“Also state of affairs and affairs of State @Mamata Official. Welfare of people of West Bengal is ever uppermost in my mind. All my actions are inspired to mitigate woes of WB people,” Mr Dhankar added.

Sources said during the meeting with the home minister, the West Bengal governor discussed some other issues, including his constitutional duties provided under Article 159 “to try and preserve, protect and defend the Constitution”.

“I will devote myself to the service and well-being of the people. I pledge total commitment for WB people,’’ the governor further stated in another tweet.

Earlier, on Sunday, the governor had said there was no room for complacency for the state government when it came to dealing with rising Covid19 positive cases and deaths in West Bengal.
