Questions are being raised on transparency issue regarding the on-going feedback exercise for shortlisting of names for the post of district presidents. Agitated with the efforts being made to sabotage the process, Gautam Gambhir is likely to take up the issue with the central leadership.

According to reliable sources in the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party, party state unit vice president and coobservers for seeking probable names for president of Shahdara district, Rajiv Babbar called a party leader to suggest three names for the post.

“As per the directions of the state leaderships, the said party leader suggested three names on phone and within 10 minutes the state unit general secretary, Kuljeet Chahal, called the same leader and asked why he did not suggest names he gave. He used some strong words too,” he added. It is also learnt that Mr Gambhir, under whose Lok Sabha constituency Shahdara district of the party falls, called Mr Babbar and said that being a party observer he must have maintained some confidentiality.

“Mr Gambhir is likely to bring this matter in front of national general secretary Arun Singh and party’s women wing national president Vijaya Rahatkar, who are appointed as central observers to oversee the restructuring of the state unit in the coming days.

It is also learnt that while doing a similar exercise for Mehrauli district, the opinion of a suspended party leader was sought.

Party observers for Mehrauli district were asked to seek possible names for former district president Azad Singh, who was suspended for slapping his wife and former South Delhi mayor Sarita Chaudhary. Sources said that the list of leaders from whom opinion must be sought doesn’t include the name of Mr Singh but later on it was included on the direction of state organisation general secretary Siddharthan.

Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta said that as per information, opinion from Mr Singh was not taken as he was suspended from the party.
