Raj governor parroting his master’s voice, says Singhvi
New Delhi, July 26: The Congress on Sunday accused the Rajasthan Governor of resorting to the “worst kind of obstruction of democracy” by raising “superficial and motivated” queries on Ashok Gehlot government’s demand for convening a session of the state assembly.
Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said his party wants a floor test in the state assembly and is “begging” for it. But the governor “was parroting his master’s voice” and not convening the House at the behest of the central government, he alleged.
He also said the fight would take place on the floor of the house and not in the courtroom.
No decision has been taken by the party on whether to challenge the Rajasthan High Court’s Friday order directing status quo on the disqualification notices issued to 19 rebel party MLAs, including sacked deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot who has revolted against Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, sources said.
A section within the party is also favouring withdrawal of the petition filed before the Supreme Court challenging the High Court’s previous order requesting Rajasthan assembly Speaker to defer action, they said.
A senior party leader said the decision has been left to the Speaker of Rajasthan Assembly, who has moved the SC, and the party’s legal eagles handling the matter.
Mr Singhvi cited Supreme Court judgements and several precedents including those of Rajasthan assembly with regard to the convening of the assembly session. “Such superficial, clearly motivated, digressive and extraneous queries establish beyond doubt that they are coming from the highest authorities of the central government and being parroted without change as His Master’s Voice from Raj Bhawan, Jaipur.
