- AGE CORRESPONDENT

A 62-year-old doctor, allegedly a “serial killer” involved in over dozens of murder and kidnapping cases across the national capital and neigbhouring states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, was arrested from Delhi’s Baprola where he was living secretly after jumping parole in a murder case in January this year, the police said on Wednesday.

The accused — Devender Sharma, a BAMS degree holder, hails from Purreni village in Aligrah district of Uttar Pradesh. He was held by the Delhi police’s crime branch team six months after he jumped parole, it said.

Citing previous media reports, police claimed he may have been involved in more than 100 murder cases of drivers but could not confirm the exact figures of his previous involvements as the cases registered against him in Delhi, UP, Haryana and Rajasthan were investigated by the concerned state police. The police said Sharma was arrested twice earlier for running fake gas agency in Uttar Pradesh and was also jailed for running kidney racket in different states.

He was convicted in several cases of kidnapping and murder of truck and taxi drivers.

“Sharma was serving life sentence in Jaipur jail in a murder case and had come on parole for 20 days in January this year after remaining in jail for 16 years but after jumping parole, he stayed at his native village and then moved to Delhi in the beginning of March and started residing in the house of a known person at Mohan Garden. Later, he moved to Baprola and married a widow and got into property business. Our team arrested him after we received information on Tuesday about his hideout, said DCP (crime) Rakesh Paweriya.

After graduating in BAMS from Siwan, he started his clinic in 1984 in Jaipur.
