Jaya’s house treasure: 601 kg silver, 4.4 kg gold

Former Tamil Nadu chief minister late J Jayalithaa’s residence had 32,721 movable properties, including 14 gold items weighing 4.372 kg and 867 silver items of 601.4 kg, besides 162 small utensils,11 television sets, 10 refrigerat­ors, 38 air conditione­rs and 556 pieces of furniture.

These items were listed in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette Extraordin­ary, published to announce the promulgati­on of an Ordinance by Governor Banwarilal Purohit to temporaril­y take possession of Veda Nilayam, the Poes Garden residence of Jayalalith­aa, and the movable properties in it.

The other movable properties listed were 6,514 kitchen utensils, 12

Kitchen racks and furniture, 1,055 cutlery items, 15 pooja utensils, 10,438 pieces of dress materials/ towels/bedsheets/other loth items / pillow covers / curtains / footwear, and 29 Telephones / mobile phones, 221 Kitchen electrical items, 251 electrical accessorie­s, 8,376 books, 394 mementos, 653 documents like license, court documents and IT statements, 253 stationery items, 1,712 furnishing accessorie­s, 65 suitcases, 108 cosmetic items, six clocks, one xerox machine, one laser Printer and 959 miscellane­ous items.

The Ordinance also enjoined the establishm­ent of ‘Puratchi Thalaivi Dr J Jayalalith­aa Memorial Foundation’ and for making long term arrangemen­ts to convert Veda Nilayam, along with the movable properties, into a memorial.
