- AGE CORRESPONDENT

East Delhi BJP MP Gautam Gambhir, on Thursday, announced a campaign, “Pankh,” to take care of 25 girl children of sex workers of G.B. Road in the national capital. Under the initiative, Mr Gambhir has decided to adopt 25 children of sex workers of the city. He will bear their fees, health, and other miscellaneous expenses.

The Gautam Gambhir Fo undation (GGF) of the cricketer-turnedpolitician is also taking care of 200 children of those brave-hearts who made supreme sacrifice for the country.

“Everybody in society has the right to live a decent life and I want to ensure more opportunities for these children so that they can live their dreams. I will take care of their living, education, and their health,” said Mr Gambhir. Currently 10 girls have been selected for the programme.

“We have selected 10 girls who are studying in various government schools this session. We will sponsor their school fees, uniform, and food and provide medical help including counselling so that they can achieve their dreams,” Mr Gambhir added.

The GGF also faces difficulties as several girls or kids are not sharing details due to the apprehension of intrusion in their lives. “In the next academic session, we will be reaching out to more children as my target is to bring at least 25 children under this programme. We aim to empower adolescent girls (5-18 years) by giving them regular counselling so that they do not drop out but complete their education,” said the East Delhi MP.

Mr Gambhir also appealed to affluent people to come forward and help sponsor children based on their respective capacities.

“Today is my Naani jee’s (maternal grandmother) birthday. With her blessings I want to start this project for her and dedicate it to her,” he said.
