Mumbai: Actor Rhea Chakraborty was questioned for more than 10 hours by the Enforcement Directorate in the Sushant Singh Rajput investigation after her request to put it off was rejected by the agency this morning.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday grilled actor Rhea Chakraborty in connection with the alleged money laundering case that stems from a complaint filed by late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s father. The officials questioned Chakraborty, business manager and brother on some shell companies that were registered in the addresses of Navi Mumbai. The action comes a day after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a case against her and others taking over the suicide probe.

The central agency is investigating the monetary trail in connection with the properties owned by Chakraborty and her family to ascertain how the funds were arranged to buy them. The officials found a flat measuring 500 sqft in the name of Chakraborty located at Khar (east). The ED questioned her to find out how she arranged money to partly pay the total cost of `85 lakh.

The actor arrived at the ED office in south Mumbai around noon accompanied by her brother Showik Chakraborty and manager Shruti Modi. The ED case is based on the FIR filed by the

Bihar police after the statement of Rajput’s father. The agency is also probing some companies that were floated with addresses registered at residential premises. These companies were non-functional, making them likely shell firms, a front to launder money.

“The verification of these companies is underway to check if they acted as fronts for laundering any funds. Other aspects including funds’ transfer are also being probed,” said ED officials.
