Trump: Biden is against God and guns

Biden says ‘my faith is my guiding light’, calls Don’s claim ‘shameful’

-

Cleveland, Aug. 7: President Donald Trump billed his trip to Ohio Thursday as a chance to promote economic recovery, but he quickly pivoted to a deeply personal attack on Joe Biden, even questioning without foundation the former vicepresident’s faith in God.

Even for a President known for his blunt criticism, Mr Trump’s remarks stood out and they signalled how contentious the campaign may get over the coming months.

“He’s following the radical left agenda, take away your guns, destroy your 2nd Amendment, no religion, no anything, hurt the Bible, hurt God. He’s against God. He’s against guns. He’s against energy, our kind of energy. I don’t think he’s going to do too well in Ohio,” Mr Trump said. Mr Biden called the remarks beneath the office he holds. “For President Trump to attack my faith is shameful,” he said.

“Like so many people, my faith has been the bedrock foundation of my life: it’s provided me comfort in moments of loss and tragedy, it’s kept me grounded and humbled in times of triumph and joy. And in this moment of darkness for our country – of pain, of division, and of sickness for so many Americans – my faith has been a guiding light for me and a constant reminder of the fundamental dignity and humanity that God has bestowed upon all of us,” he said.

Ohio is a key election battleground, and Mr Biden, who is leading in the polls, has frequently spoken about how his Catholic faith helped him cope with the deaths of his first wife and daughter in a 1972 car accident.
