‘Those trying to influence process will be punished’

- SHASHI BHUSHAN

After Lok Sabha MP Gautam Gambhir questioned the way feedback exercise is being carried out to shortlist names for the post of district presidents in the party, Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta said that those who tried to influence the process will be punished.

Last month, agitated over a section of leaders who were trying to sabotage the process, Mr Gambhir raised the issue with the party’s leadership.

Mr Gupta told this newspaper that he had a word with Mr Gambhir and that his concerns will be addressed before the formation of a new team of Delhi BJP.

“I talked to Mr Gambhir and discussed the concerns raised by him. A proper inquiry will be done to find out the truth. Anyone found guilty of influencing the exercise will be punished with

strict action for sabotaging a free and transparent exercise,” Mr Gupta added.

Sources in the party pointed out that Mr Gupta is unhappy and agitated after it came to his notice that some senior office bearers were trying to influence a participatory process of selecting district presidents.

On July 22, this newspaper had reported that Delhi BJP vice president and co-observers, for seeking probable names for president of Shahdara district, Rajiv Babbar called a party leader to suggest three names for the post.

“As per the direction of the state leadership, the said party leader suggested three names on phone and within 10 minutes state unit general secretary Kuljeet Chahal called the same leader and asked why the former did not suggest names he gave and also used some strong words,” a party leader had said.

It is also learnt that Mr Gambhir, under whose Lok Sabha constituency Shahdara district of the party falls, called Mr Babbar and pointed out that being a party observer he must have maintained some confidentiality.
