LeT group planning something ‘big’ busted

Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday claimed that it has busted a financing network of Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) after arresting six of its operatives. “The group was planning something big and spectacula­r,” a senior police officer claimed.

Inspector General of Police (Jammu range) Mukesh Singh identified the accused as Mudasir Farooq Bhat, Tauqeer Ahmad Bhat, Asif Bhat,

Khalid Latif Bhat, Gazi Iqbal and Tariq Hussain Mir. Mr Singh claimed that all the accused were working for Mohammad Amin Bhat alias Haroon alias Khubeb, also a resident Doda “who is an LeT cadre trained in Pakistan in 1997 and is currently operating from there.”

“After being imparted arms training in Pakistan in 1997, Haroon had returned to Doda,” the IGP said.

He told reporters in winter capital that some time ago the police authoritie­s received informatio­n that a “terror financing network” is operating in Jammu following which J&K police counterins­urgency Special Operations Group (SOG) detained Mudasir Farooq, a resident of Doda district, for questionin­g. “After it was establishe­d that he was associated with a LeT financing network he was formally arrested,” he said.

The police officer claimed that the police confiscate­d a tiffin box containing `150, 000 on July 19 and that during further investigat­ions and interrogat­ion of Mudasir it was revealed that five more persons are also part of this group. They too were subsequent­ly arrested and a case has been registered against them under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.”

Mr Singh claimed that all the accused were working for Mohammad Amin Bhat alias Haroon alias Khubeb, also a resident Doda “who is an LeT cadre trained in Pakistan in 1997 and is currently operating from that country only”.

The IGP said, “After being imparted arms training in Pakistan in 1997, Haroon returned to Doda where he was involved in LeT’s terror activities. He then went back to Pakistan in 2006.
