PM: A&N Islands can become top tourist destinatio­n

For a ‘New India,’ balanced developmen­t of each part of the country is required, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday during his interactio­n with the BJP workers of Andaman and Nicobar islands. Noting that the Andaman and Nicobar Islands “gave strength” to the Independen­ce movement and the region is associated with freedom fighters – Subhash Chandra Bose and Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, the Prime Minister said that the region will witness many developmen­t projects and said the Andaman and Nicobar islands have potential of becoming one of the key centers of global maritime trade due to its strategic location. Interactin­g with the BJP workers a day ahead of inaugurati­on of the submarine Optical Fibre Cable (OFC), connecting Chennai and Port Blair by him, Mr Modi said the

OFC will virtually connect the region with the world and also asked the BJP cadre to focus more on the cleanlines­s of the islands as the region has potential of becoming a major tourism destinatio­n. BJP president J.P. Nadda was also present during the PM’s interactio­n with the party workers through video conferenci­ng.

While appreciati­ng the Covid-19 relief works undertaken by the BJP workers, Mr Modi said the “seva and samarpan(service and dedication)” should continue and a BJP karyakarta should see to it that he can help as many people as he can.

Mr Modi said Andaman and Nicobar islands have been chosen for the expansion of high impact projects and can also play an important role in Atmanirbha­r Bharat Mission as the region has great potential in seafood, organic products and coconut-based products.
