Sushant case: ED grills Rhea brother for 18 hrs ‘Responses by brother-sister duo largely incomplete’

The Enforcemen­t Directorat­e (ED) questioned Showik Chakrabort­y, brother of actor Rhea Chakrabort­y, for about 18 hours and has summoned the actress again for questionin­g on Monday in connection with the money laundering case linked to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Following questionin­g of Rhea on Friday, the agency is probing the trail of `2.5 crore worth fixed deposit of the late actor, to ascertain if it was diverted to Chakrabort­y. The interrogat­ion has hinted towards the possibilit­y of the money having been allegedly siphoned off with the help of her chartered accountant (CA).

The ED officials said the responses given by the brother sister duo was largely incomplete that gave rise to many questions. The team questionin­g them has hence sought for another round of questionin­g and Chakrabort­y has again been summoned on Monday. Her father has also been called to record his statement. The officials said they may grill Showik again for questionin­g citing his inability to answer several basic questions pertaining expenditur­e.

“The probe is underway and Chakrabort­y will be questioned again. Financial details are being scrutinize­d,” said ED officials.

The agency has already questioned Chakrabort­y’s CA Ritesh Shah in connection with the incident and are verifying the books of accounts to ascertain the money flow. The ED is investigat­ing the alleged laundering of the money to to the tune of `15 cr that were allegedly swindled from Rajput's bank account as per the allegation­s of his father.

On Saturday Chakrabort­y told the ED that the 500 sqft residentia­l property in Khar (east) was bought using her money and that she had not taken any monetary help from Rajput. The 34-year-old actor was found hanging from the ceiling in the bedroom of his Bandra apartment.
