- SHASHI BHUSHAN

Days after the Union government announced the new education policy (NEP), the BJP ruled municipal corporations plan to introduce it from the current academic session. Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta told this newspaper that work has been started to adopt the new curriculum based on the NEP.

Last week, Mr Gupta held a discussion with the top leadership of BJP ruled three municipal corporations and directed them to start working on implementing the new policy.

“The new education policy will be implemented in all municipal schools in the current academic session and the consultation process has started. The new policy talks on overall development and emphasises on learning and skill development,” added Mr Gupta. The party also decided to rope in the academia for suggestions to design the new curriculum.

“With the help of wellknown academicians, a new curriculum will be drafted soon for implementation,” said Delhi BJP.

About 10 lakh students study in over 1,500 schools run by the three municipal corporations. The civic bodies impart primary education as mandated by the statute. BJP national vice president Shyam Jaju said that an awareness campaign and consultation process for the new education policy has been going on for the last two months.

According to Mr Jaju, the party had held several rounds of consultation via webinar and online meetings in the last two months.
