When friends turned foes

An emotional thriller on the YSR-CBN relationship

- SASHIDHAR ADIVI

So far, we have seen films on the lives of the late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy (YSR) and Nara Chandrababu Naidu (CBN), two former Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh. And now, a new project seeks to capture on celluloid the affection and camaraderie between YSR and CBN. In the emotional political drama, filmmaker Raj showcases the relationship between these two big politicians and friends, who ultimately turned foes. The filmmaker is planning to bring to the limelight their friendship — how it all started, how their friendship blossomed and how they turned political foes.

A source says, “The story is about two young leaders who started their political journey within the same political party at the same time, who were initially close friends, but drifted apart with time, as scenarios changed, and espoused contrasting ideologies.”

Both leaders tried to define Andhra Pradesh politics in their own way, and ended up being arch rivals due to political circumstances. The film is a semi-fictitious take on three decades of AP State politics from the early 80’s till the late 2000’s, from the perspectives of these two men.

The source adds that “The project also deals with the duality in politics — Chandrababu believed in development while YSR endorsed welfare, the two arms of progress. While the friendship between the two protected them from division to an extent, the pursuit of power made a crack inevitable ultimately.”

Thirumal Reddy and Vishnu Induri are bankrolling this project. Apparently, the makers are planning the project in two parts. While the first one ends with CBN becoming the Chief Minister, the second ends with YSR taking over the reins.
