Rhea, family members appear for another round of questioning by ED

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) began their next round of questioning of actor Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik, father Indrajit and manager Shruti Modi on Monday in connection with the Sushant Singh Rajput suicide. The group was later joined by Siddharth Pithani, flatmate of Rajput, after 2 pm who was summoned by the agency.

The ED is questioning them on the funds that were exchanged in the name of a company that was floated with an address in Ulwe in Raigad district. Chakraborty has meanwhile filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court stating she was subjected to a media trial and had already been tagged a murderer.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has stated that they would record statement of Rajput’s father KK Singh either by sending a team to his Patna residence or by summoning him. The Bihar police’s case is based on a statement that he gave to them alleging that Chakraborty was the reason his son committed suicide. The CBI will ascertain the allegations that he levelled against Chakraborty.

The ED has sped up the probe in the case with the second round of grilling of the Chakraborty family along with Modi and Pithani. They have found some transactions between Showik and his sister and to his account from Rajput, the trail of these monetary transactions is being looked into. The brother-sister duo was director in the said firm. “The questioning began around 11 am and they may be recalled for questioning again if needed,” said ED officials. The ED has also found that despite having declared her income between `14 lakh and `18 lakh for the last two years, her investments have been to the tune of several lakhs, the source of which will be probed.

Earlier, Chakraborty told the ED that the 500 sqft residential property in Khar (east) was bought using her money and that she had not taken any monetary help from Rajput. Rajput was found hanging from the ceiling in the bedroom of his Bandra apartment. The agency will also record the statement of Rajput’s CA in the case filed against Chakraborty, her parents (mother Sandhya Chakraborty and father), brother Showik, staff Samuel Miranda, Shruti Modi and other unknown persons for cheating and abetting suicide.
