Chained woman rescued from her home

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

A 32-year-old woman, who was held captive and bound in iron chains for several months in the national capital’s Trilokpuri area, was rescued on Tuesday by the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW).

The woman was held captive in her own house by her husband and was beaten and tortured by him.

The room in which the woman was kept had no fans and had a terrible smell as she was made to lie in her own excreta. She was tortured and beaten so brutally that it took a toll on her mental health.

It was on the basis of a tip off that Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal along with other members

of the team reached the spot and rescued the woman. When the team reached the spot, they saw that the woman was lying on the floor with her feet bound in iron chains.

The victim told the team that she had been married for the last 11 years

and her husband used to beat her brutally. The victim said she had been kept chained for the last six months.

Upon investigation, it was found that the victim’s husband owns a flour mill and that the victim was perfectly fine before the brutal treatment meted out to her.

The woman has three children, who said their father often used to beat them and their mother.

“The woman is even suffering from mental health issues now. We have rescued the woman and have started working on her rehabilitation. We will try and provide her with the best possible treatment and at the same time also ensure the strongest action against the perpetrators of the crime,” Ms Maliwal said.
