India’s Covid- 19 recovery go past 26 lakh, death rate drops

India on Saturday once again recorded the highest fresh cases in a single day after 76,472 new patients were detected with the novel coronaviru­s infection. With this spike, India’s overall Covid tally moved closer to 35 lakh as per COVID19Ind­ia. org figures. It was 34.64 lakh as per union health ministry data till Saturday morning.

The death toll due to the disease has now reached 62,550 after 1,021 people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours though as per COVID19Ind­ia. org the overall death toll was close to 63000 by evening. However, the health ministry said the Covid case fatality rate has dropped to 1.81 per cent.

The number of recoveries has increased substantia­lly with about 26.5 lakh people getting discharged from medical caretaking the recovery rate to 76.47 per cent. In the last 24 hours, 65,050 persons were declared fit. However, there are still 7.52 lakh active cases in the country currently which account for 21.72 per cent of the total caseload.

Health ministry officials said that a significan­t feature of India’s management of COVID19 cases is the growing rate of recovered patients. “The Recovery Rate of India is following a continuous upward incline whereas the Case Fatality Rate is constantly declining,” they said.

According to officials, the global comparison depicts that India has one of the lowest cases per million ( 2424) and deaths per million ( 44) compared to the global average of 3161 and 107.2, respective­ly. Eight states — M a h a r a s h t r a , Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha and Telangana — contribute to around 73% of the active caseload, as of today. Moreover, seven states — Maharashtr­a, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal — account for 81% of the total deaths.
