Adesh faces criticism over appointment of district, block heads
Delhi BJP president Adesh Kumar Gupta seems to be having a tough time as he continues to face criticism over the functioning of the state unit. Recently, one of the party Lok Sabha members from the city openly questioned the appointment of district and block presidents at the residence of former Union minister.
In his maidan visit to any district unit after three months to taking over the reins of the party in the national capital, Mr Gupta did not bother to inform the local MP on time. On September 1, former Union minister Vijay Goel had organised a programme to pay tribute to his father and first Speaker of Delhi Assembly late Charti Lal Goel at his official residence. The programme was attended by several MPs and senior party leaders. According to party sources, at Mr Goel’s residence South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri confronted Mr Gupta and questioned why transparency was not maintained during the appointment of district and block presidents in his Lok Sabha constituency.
“We witnessed a heated argument taking place between Mr Bidhuri and Mr Gupta. Mr Bidhuri pointed out that genuine opinions were not being
considered and the opinion of some leaders were not taken into consideration while suggestions were being sought for names for district and block presidents,” said a party leader who witnessed the argument. When questioned about the argument with Mr Bidhuri, Mr Gupta told this newspaper that it was a general discussion on appointments. “For the appointments, wider consultation was held and the organisation’s decision was held supreme,” Mr Gupta added.
On Thursday, to reach out to workers, Mr Gupta started district ‘ pravas’ ( visit) from Navin Shahdara district. Interestingly, local MP and former Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari was informed by Mr Gupta via an SMS three hours before the start of the event.
Mr Gupta’s meeting with district president was held without Mr Tiwari.
Delhi BJP media head Ashok Goel said that Mr Tiwari was preoccupied so he couldn’t join the meet. Attempts to contact him had turned futile.
