- LIPIKA VARMA

Divya Dutta, who debuted with, Ishq Mein Jeena Ishq Mein Marna in 1994, has since then played pivotal roles in films like Veer Zara, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag etc., and has also been seen in web series like Special OPS. Her latest is Hostages 2 where she plays a negotiator. The adaptation of an Israeli series will begin streaming from September 9, on Hotstar. Divya talks to DC about her latest projects.

“I have a childlike enthusiasm for every role,” says the actress, talking about her ability to portray diverse characters. “I see certain important factors. Also, a little nervous energy, a little excitement are essential,” she says, adding, “If one gets the ‘ I know everything’ attitude, it won’t work out.”

On Hostages Season 2, Divya says, “What really intrigued me was the story. I always wanted to be a part of something like that and then Season 2 was offered to me. I was very excited to play the role of Ayesha Khan. She is a negotiator. It’s nice to be this woman in a man’s world trying to call the shots. I enjoyed playing the layers given by Sudhir Mishra to the character.” The actress also reveals that the character Ayesha Khan is close to who she is in real life.

And, mirroring her role, Divya too has made a mark in male- dominated Bollywood. “I think I have made a very comfortable place for myself in the industry. When you are selfreliant and people like your work and like the actor in you they respond to you in a certain way,” she explains. This is the first time she’s working with both Sudhir Mishra and Director Sachin Krishn.
