L- G calls for restrategising Covid unlocking measures
4,127 cases push Delhi’s tally to over 2.38 lakh
ACCORDING TO a govt official, it was emphasised in the meeting that the focus of Covid management should be on containing transmission, strengthening medical infrastructure, improving recovery of patients, and reducing Covid- 19 fatalities
With Covid- 19 cases continuing to surge in the national capital, lieutenantgovernor Anil Baijal, on Friday, directed authorities to prepare a blueprint to re- strategise containment policy, unlocking measures, and aggressive contact tracing.
Delhi recorded 4,127 new cases with 30 deaths in the last 24 hours. Of the total 2,38,828 patients, 32,250 are active while 2,01,671 have recovered. With 30 deaths, the total death count rose to 4,907.
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal attended the Delhi Disaster Management Authority ( DDMA) meeting where his health minister Satyendar Jain, revenue minister Kailash Gahlot, and top officers were also present.
“Advised officials and experts to jointly prepare blueprint for re- strategising containment zone policy to reduce positivity and mortality rate. Emphasised on aggressive IEC campaign particularly in vernacular languages to engage stakeholders for ensuring Covid appropriate behaviour,” Mr Baijal said in a tweet. According to a government official, it was emphasised in the meeting that the focus of
Covid- 19 management in Delhi should be on containing transmission, strengthening medical infrastructure, improving recovery of patients, and reducing Covid- 19 fatalities.
“The lieutenant- governor, who chaired the DDMA meeting, also directed the district magistrates and deputy commissioners of police for proper delineation and strict perimeter control of containment zones and active house- to- house surveillance with special focus on high risk management as per Central government guidelines,” he said.
It was also directed that field officers will strictly ensure home isolation as per ICMR guideline, social distancing measures, wearing of masks, and hygiene practices.
The officers were also directed to take action against unauthorised weekly markets. It was also advised to shift the weekly market at larger, open spaces to ensure social distancing.
In order to achieve behavioural changes among the people in view of the pandemic, the officers were directed to go for aggressive campaigning and engaging youth, resident welfare associations, and nonprofit groups for the purpose.
Management of vectorborne diseases like dengue and malaria were also reviewed during the meeting. The officers were directed for effective surveillance in identified vulnerable areas and ramp up preventive and preparatory measures.
“They were also asked to ensure sufficient diagnostic kits, medicines, and beds in hospitals,” added the officials. Delhi government’s principal sec retary ( Health) made a detailed presentation in the meeting about Covid19 situation in the national capital.
