L- G calls for restrategi­sing Covid unlocking measures

ACCORDING TO a govt official, it was emphasised in the meeting that the focus of Covid management should be on containing transmissi­on, strengthen­ing medical infrastruc­ture, improving recovery of patients, and reducing Covid- 19 fatalities

With Covid- 19 cases continuing to surge in the national capital, lieutenant­governor Anil Baijal, on Friday, directed authoritie­s to prepare a blueprint to re- strategise containmen­t policy, unlocking measures, and aggressive contact tracing.

Delhi recorded 4,127 new cases with 30 deaths in the last 24 hours. Of the total 2,38,828 patients, 32,250 are active while 2,01,671 have recovered. With 30 deaths, the total death count rose to 4,907.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal attended the Delhi Disaster Management Authority ( DDMA) meeting where his health minister Satyendar Jain, revenue minister Kailash Gahlot, and top officers were also present.

“Advised officials and experts to jointly prepare blueprint for re- strategisi­ng containmen­t zone policy to reduce positivity and mortality rate. Emphasised on aggressive IEC campaign particular­ly in vernacular languages to engage stakeholde­rs for ensuring Covid appropriat­e behaviour,” Mr Baijal said in a tweet. “The lieutenant- governor, who chaired the DDMA meeting, also directed the district magistrate­s and deputy commission­ers of police for proper delineatio­n and strict perimeter control of containmen­t zones and active house- to- house surveillan­ce with special focus on high risk management as per Central government guidelines,” he said.

It was also directed that field officers will strictly ensure home isolation as per ICMR guideline, social distancing measures, wearing of masks, and hygiene practices.

The officers were also directed to take action against unauthoris­ed weekly markets. It was also advised to shift the weekly market at larger, open spaces to ensure social distancing.

In order to achieve behavioura­l changes among the people in view of the pandemic, the officers were directed to go for aggressive campaignin­g and engaging youth, resident welfare associatio­ns, and nonprofit groups for the purpose.

Management of vectorborn­e diseases like dengue and malaria were also reviewed during the meeting. The officers were directed for effective surveillan­ce in identified vulnerable areas and ramp up preventive and preparator­y measures.

“They were also asked to ensure sufficient diagnostic kits, medicines, and beds in hospitals,” added the officials. Delhi government’s principal sec retary ( Health) made a detailed presentati­on in the meeting about Covid19 situation in the national capital.
