MP Assembly will hold virtual session

Bhopal: In a first of its kind move in the country, the Madhya Pradesh Assembly is going to hold a virtual session on Monday. The one- day Monsoon Session is scheduled to be held with a physical presence of a minimum number of members, required for quorum, while other members will take part online.

The one- day monsoon session of the house is scheduled to be held with a physical presence of a minimum number of members, required for quorum, while other members will take part in the proceeding­s online, state legislativ­e assembly secretary A P Singh said on Sunday.

The decision was taken at the all party meeting here keeping in view the worsening pandemic situation in MP which has so far claimed lives of 1903 people.

It has also been decided to curtail the 3- day- session to a single day, speaker of the assembly Rameswar Sharma said. According to Mr Sharma, as many as 57 members, chosen by their respective parties, are scheduled to be physically present in the house to take part in the proceeding­s.

The state government has made provisions for other members to take part in the business of the house online from National Informatic­s Centres ( NIC) from their respective districts.

“Since it will be difficult to enforce social distancing during the proceeding­s of the house, the political parties have been asked to select a minimum number of legislator­s to be present in the house to take part in the business”, Mr Sharma said.

While Congress MLA Gobardhan Singh Dangi died of Covid- 19, 39 other legislator­s and ministers have so far contracted the virus.

Necessary financial and legislativ­e businesses are scheduled to be completed after the mention and tribute to the departed souls when the house meets for its one- day- monsoon session on Monday.
