Border with Pak ‘ virtually sealed’ in Punjab

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Border Security Force ( BSF) has rushed additional troops to increase security along the IndiaPakistan border in Punjab sector. Sources said additional 4,000- 5,000 troops have been deployed in sensitive border districts of Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Amritsar and Taran Taran thus “virtually sealing” the entire border.

There has been an increased activity from the Pakistan side along the border areas of Punjab. Sources claimed they had specific intelligence inputs that Pakistan would try large- scale infiltration into Punjab and was now focusing on this region instead of the Kashmir Valley.

Following these developments intense security review was conducted for the border districts of Punjab by multiple agencies and it was decided to further increase deployment specially by the BSF Frontier Zone.

There are four major districts of Punjab that share their border with Pakistan — Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Amritsar and Taran Taran. Sources claimed that additional border forces between 4,000- 5,000 have been deployed along these four districts. This is in addition to the regular deployments that is done by the BSF. Following these additional deployments security sources claimed that the Pakistan border in Punjab sector has been “virtually sealed.”

“We have done adequate deployment in this sensitive sector and have almost sealed all the vulnerable spots. The situation is being monitored on regular basis and if some more corrective measures need to be taken we will do the same. It is unlikely that Pakistan will now try some misadventure in this sector,” a senior security official remarked.

Over the last few days several attempts have bene made to infiltrate from Punjab border. Further drones have been spotted frequently which has even dropped sophisticated weapons some of which were recovered by security forces in the Gurdaspur region. This increased activity by Pakistan is being linked to the ongoing farmers agitation in Punjab.
