2 IPS officers go to HC over cattle smuggling case
Seek relief from appearance, face grilling
Two senior West Bengal IPS officers, summoned by the CBI in the highprofile cattle smuggling case last week, have moved the Calcutta high court for their relief from appearance and face questioning.
They are inspector general (intelligence branch) of the state police Kallol Ganai and deputy commissioner of police of the Asansol Durgapur police commissionerate Angshuman Saha. Their plea is expected to come up for hearing before Justice Sabyasachi Bhattacharyya this week.
Mr Ganai, who earlier served as the deputy inspector general of Murshidabad Range, and Mr Saha, who was posted as the additional superintendent of Murshidabad previously, were called by the CBI's anti-corruption branch to appear at its office in Nizam Palace and face questioning in the case.
But the IPS duo challenged the summons at the high court contending that since the state government withdrew its general sanction to the CBI two years ago, the CBI can not call them in

It has also summoned three relatives of Enamul Haque, the arrested kingpin of the cattle smuggling network for their questioning. All eyes would however be on Trinamul Congress leader Vinay Mishra who has again been asked in a fresh summons to appear at the CBI office on January 12 to face questioning in the same case after he skipped his first date on January 4.
The key aide of chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s MP nephew Abhishek Banerjee also carries a lookout notice against him since his two residences in the city were raided by the CBI on December 31.
