Woman, daughter held for gold theft

New Delhi: Three members of a family were arrested for allegedly stealing gold ornaments from a jewellery shop in south Delhi’s Chattarpur area, police said on Tuesday. The accused — Mithlesh (55), her daughter Durgeshwar­i (21) and son Chirag (19), are residents of Madangir. They usually targeted old aged shopkeeper­s at jewellery shops, they said. A CCTV footage of the incident also surfaced online wherein the woman along with her daughter were seen stealing gold ornaments from the jewellery shop. According to the complainan­t Shambhu Dayal, on December 25, 2020, two women came to his jewellery shop and asked him to show earrings. He showed them earrings and after sometime, they left the shop. Later on during checking, he found that one box of earrings was missing. On watching the cctv footages, it was revealed that both women had stolen the jewellery box having gold of weight 50 Grams. Deputy commission­er of police (South) Atul Kumar Thakur said the CCTV footages of the shop and nearby spots were analysed and it was revealed that the two women came on a mettalic red colour scooty with a male, who was waiting outside the shop. “On the basis of cctv footages, it was revealed that the scooty had crossed the border to Gurgaon and reached Sikanderpu­r to mislead police. But later, on checking details of the alleged scooty, the police team managed to reach Madangir from where the offending vehicle was traced,” he said.
