Uma Bharti demands prohibition in all the BJP-ruled states

- RABINDRA NATH CHOUDHURY

BJP leader and former chief minister Uma Bharti on Thursday demanded prohibition in the BJP-ruled states.

Her demand incidentally comes in the wake of state home minister Narottam Mishra proposing to open more liquor shops in Madhya Pradesh to generate revenue.

Ms Bharti said she wanted to draw the attention of BJP national president J P Nadda through social media to her demand.

In a series of tweets, Ms Bharti said alcohol caused more deaths than road accidents. But, the government has ignored prohibition for the sake of revenue. In another tweet, she said the system promotes liquor consumption. The liquor lobby has been influencing the government to shun probation.

“Allowing to open liquor shops by the government is like a mother giving poison to her child,” she said.

She attributed the victory of BJP in the recent Bihar elections to the prohibition imposed in the state.
