Scindia finally gets an address in Bhopal, allotted govt bungalow

BJP leader is now neighbour ex-CM Uma Bharti at Shyamla Hills

Senior BJP leader Jyotiraditya Scindia, the third generation leader of the erstwhile royal family of Gwalior, has finally got an address in Bhopal with allotment of a government bungalow to him in the state capital.

He was on Thursday allotted a government bungalow for being an MP in Shymla Hills that is famous for its picturesque landscape.

His address in Bhopal now reads: B-5, Shymla Hills.

Mr Scindia has thus become a neighbour of former chief minister Uma Bharti and his bungalow is hardly 3 quarters away from that of his bête noir and veteran Congress leader Digvijay Singh.

Mr Scindia had applied for a government bungalow much ahead of November 2018 Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, being an elected representative from Guna Lok Sabha constituency then.

He was in Congress then. He was then appointed the campaign committee chairman of Congress for MP in the 2018 Assembly polls.

There was however “undue” delay in processing of his application by the then Shivraj Singh Chouhan government, reportedly for political reasons.

He could not be allotted a government bungalow during the Kamal Nath government, which succeeded the previous Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in December, 2018, since he lost LS elections from Guna in 2019.

Mr Scindia, who crossed over to BJP from Congress in March 2020, was later elected to Rajya Sabha from MP.

“The Scindia family does not own a house in Bhopal. Mr Scindia used to stay either in a government guest house or in a hotel here whenever he visited Bhopal. Earlier, he was not keen to take government accommodation in Bhopal. He had applied for a government bungalow in 2018 when he was appointed Campaign Committee chairman of Congress,” a close aide of Mr Scindia told this newspaper requesting not to be quoted.

Mr Scindia was earlier staying in 27, Safdarjung Road, New Delhi, a government bungalow allotted to his father late Madhavrao Scindia as an MP 33 years ago.

He had vacated the bungalow in July 2019 after he lost the Lok Sabha polls from Guna.

The erstwhile royal family of Gwalior made their debut in electoral politics when Mr Scindia’s grandmother late Vijayaraje Scindia was elected to Lok Sabha from Guna in 1957.
