Gaja Capital Prize

for book on Flipkart

Mumbai: A definitive account of one of India's biggest start-ups Flipkart by journalist Mihir Dalal won the Gaja Capital Business Book Prize 2020. The winner, who receives a prize of `15 lakh, was selected from a shortlist of six books, showcasing the vibrant Indian business ecosystem. "Big Billion Startup: The Untold Flipkart Story" was published by Pan Macmillan India. Establishe­d by the Gaja Capital equity firm in 2019, the Gaja Business Book Prize is one of the leading initiative­s connecting the worlds of business and writing. The jury said the Flipkart story "reminds us that Indian entreprene­urs will forge their own independen­t paths of innovation serving a diverse and very demanding Indian consumer". The other shortliste­d books were: Bottle of Lies by Katherine Eban; HDFC Bank by Tamal Bandyopadh­yay; Saying No to Jugaad: The Making of Bigbasket by T.N. Hari and M.S. Subramania­n; The Making of Hero by Sunil

Munjal; and The Moonshot Game by Rahul Chandra. Announcing the winner virtually, Gopal Jain, co-founder and managing partner of Gaja Capital, said, "The Indian growth phenomenon is one of the great stories of the 21st century. It needs to be told.” —
