‘People thought I might have got married’…

…says Saloni Aswani as she stages a comeback to Telugu cinema

-

When Saloni made her debut in Telugu in 2005, she was told that the screen lifespan of an actress was around five years. “I guess times kept changing and now even married actresses are finding great projects,” she notes. Saloni is excited about making a comeback to Telugu. She’s doing an as yet untitled film starring Sunil. “It’s a quirky role and something I have wanted to do for a long time,” the actress shares.

The Maryada Ramanna star, who has been in the industry 15 years and counting, says life in cinema made her work harder. Coming from a non-filmy background, making her debut in showbiz was naturally the biggest high, she says.”

At a time when being in showbiz is all about promoting oneself, Saloni is not on social media. She reveals that she likes her privacy and prefers to let her work speak for her.

In her 15-year-career, Saloni has done around 20 projects. She feels that she should have done more. “After my last release in Race Gurram (2014), there was no news about me as I hadn’t signed any films,” she says, adding that she feels people may have assumed that she had got married and left the country.

On the subject of marriage, she says, “I don’t even have a boyfriend, so marriage isn’t on the cards anytime soon. I have not come across any guy who I instantly liked. I want a guy who I can rely upon for the rest of my life. Relationships are very fragile, but I always prioritise loyalty,” she signs off. — SA
