Over 10K personnel to guard Delhi borders
Paramilitary reinforcements will be stationed in Haryana, UP
More than 10,000 paramilitary personnel will secure the inter-state borders of Delhi, particularly at Singhu, Ghazipur and Tikri, in view of the proposed tractor rally by farmers for January 26.
Sources said that all “sensitive border areas of Delhi would be declared a sterile zone at least 48 hours before the Republic Day parade”.
In addition, more reinforcements will be stationed in both Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to deal with any untoward incident during the tractor rally.
As talks between Centre and the farmer unions having failed on Friday, security deployment would be finalised and out in place latest by Saturday night.
Senior home ministry officials, along with the Delhi police top brass, are holding regular security review meetings to ensure that no violent or untoward incident takes place in the run-up to the tractor rally.
So far the Delhi police has denied permission to the agitating farmers to hold their proposed tractor rally on the Outer Ring Road. The police force of three states — Delhi, Haryana and UP — have already held two rounds of meetings with the farmers requesting them to hold the rally outside the national capital on January 26 in view of the security restrictions.
“We have denied permission to the agitating farmer because January 26 is extremely sensitive from the security point of view as Republic Day is celebrated. We have suggested alternate routes to the farmers outside Delhi. So far adequate security arrangements are in place, which is being reviewed on a regular basis,” a senior Delhi police official said.
Security sources claimed that additional reinforcements are being rushed to the three border points where farmers are sitting on protest. The additional security reinforcement would also be deployed by latest Saturday night to ensure that farmers are not able to enter the national capital.
The home ministry is also working as a nodal agency to coordinate with the State police of Haryana, UP and Delhi to make foolproof security arrangements over the next few days.
