‘Actors need to constantly reinvent themselves’
Pranitha Subhash discusses Hungama 2 and more
Pranitha Subhash is currently shooting for the title track of her film, Hungama 2. The Priyadarshan directorial is one of the biggest and mostawaited multi-starrer franchise films of this year. The Attarintiki Daredi star will be seen in the role of girlnext-door in the comic caper.
“Somehow, such roles (girlnext-door) come to me,” smiles Pranitha, adding that she enjoys playing these roles.
The film promises to be a thorough entertainer with something for everyone.
“There’s no specific effort to invoke laughter; the narrative flows naturally. Hence the comedy that’s triggered by the characters is natural too. I haven’t prepared for the part, but just went with the flow and my character design,” Pranitha says.
While Hungama 2 brings out the funny vibe in the actress, her role in another Hindi film, Bhuj: The Pride of India is that of a Marathi wife. And in an upcoming Kannada film, Pranitha is playing a role that is unlike either of these two. “I realise that since cinema is becoming diverse, actresses should also go for different, challenging roles. In fact, mainstream actors are playing roles that have negative shades,” she says.
“With several new filmmakers coming up with interesting roles, I think acting is all about reinventing ourselves. Every new film and role is a new challenge, and it’s good that it prompts us to break the stereotypes and myths of conventional films,” Pranitha elaborates, adding that she is glad to debut in Bollywood at a time when actors are doing varied roles.
Describing the blurring of regional language lines as another welcome change, Pranitha says, “I guess cinema has been transforming and I am glad to be a part of that change. We are living in an era where the audience welcomes content-driven stories.”
