A jordaar movie by all accounts

Debutant writer-director Divyang Thakkar talks of his ‘miracle’ moment when YRF liked his script and decided to make Jayeshbhai Jordaar

-

Divyang Thakkar, an absolute outsider to Bollywood, got the green light for his film from Aditya Chopra of YRF in record time, based on his script. It all happened within a month! Divyang managed to get the e-mail address of YRF’s homegrown producer Maneesh Sharma and dashed off his bound script to him. Little did he expect an immediate call back from Maneesh, who immediately set up a meeting with Aditya Chopra.

Adi too was blown over by the script and discussed the project with Ranveer Singh. The actor couldn’t wait to start filming. Before he knew it, Divyang was not only a YRF director being groomed by Maneesh and Aditya Chopra, but he was also entrusted to direct YRF’s marquee talent Ranveer Singh in his debut directorial! “I think on the other side of this pandemic, we’re all craving that community movie-going experience where we are entertained together, and we laugh and cry along with absolute strangers. And I hope that Jayeshbhai Jordaar manages to deliver on that front because it is designed primarily as an entertainer,” says Divyang, who, incidentally, celebrates his birthday on Republic Day. Divyang says his birthday wish would be to always have the discipline to write down his thoughts and devote time to develop original scripts. “When I was writing Jayeshbhai Jordaar, I was not thinking about who would eventually make it, at what scale it would be mounted, who would be starring in it, I just wrote it for the pure joy of writing and creating that story. I would like that honesty and that excitement to carry forward in my future work as well. To not worry about the outcome but just to enjoy the process of writing and creating,” he says. Another wish is “to be grateful, forever to everyone who sort of has enabled me to tell this story; to count my blessings. For it to happen, the way it has happened in Jayeshbhai Jordaar, is nothing short of a miracle for me.” Talking of his hopes for his movie, Divyang says, “Beyond entertainment, what I really hope is that we are able to question what it really takes to be a Jordaar mard. And if we can, manage to break that stereotype of a typical action hero and just start a dialogue on our perception of masculinity, then we’ve achieved what we’ve set out to do.”— Sanskriti Media
