BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, admitted at Apollo Gleneagles Hospital, underwent another angioplasty, on Thursday afternoon, in which two more stents were implanted for the removal of blockages in the two other arteries of his heart.

The 48-year-old former Indian cricket team captain had received the first one in one of his three affected arteries at Woodlands Hospital after suffering a ‘mild’ heart attack on January 2.

The second angioplasty, which was then deferred by the doctors by twothree weeks, was planned after Sourav was examined by eminent cardiac surgeons — Dr Devi Shetty and Dr Ashwin Mehta — during the day.

The private hospital stated, “Dr Aftab Khan and the team comprising Dr Ashwin Mehta, Dr Devi Shetty, Dr Ajit Desai, Dr Saroj Mondal and Dr Saptarshi Basu successfully performed angioplasty on Mr Sourav Ganguly.”

It added, “Two stents were placed. The procedure was uneventful. Mr Ganguly is stable and under close observation.”

One of the doctors said the angioplasty took an hour. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee visited Sourav in the evening.

“Sourav received two stent implantation. The operation was successful. He is stable and doing well. He also spoke to me. I wish him all the best and congratulate the doctors also,” she said later.

Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar tweeted, “Got an update on health of @SGanguly99 Sourav Ganguly, President Board of Control for Cricket in India @BCCI under treatment in Kolkata. As per doctors and family members his condition is fine.”

Sourav is likely to be released from the hospital after some days.
