The Congress on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the arrest of a journalist who was covering the farmer protest at the Singhu border. Senior leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted, "Those who fear truth arrest honest journalists." He also tagged a video purportedly showing journalist Mandeep Punia being held by police at the border protest site.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi said journalists covering the farmers’ movement are being arrested, cases are being slapped against them and the internet is being shut down in many places. On Saturday, the Congress also had hit out against BJP governments for filing cases against journalists like Rajdeep Sardesai and Congress Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor.

government wants to trample upon the voice of the farmers but they have forgotten that the more
you suppress, the more voices will rise against your atrocities.”
On Saturday also the
Congress had hit out against the BJP government for filing cases against journalists and Congress Lok Sabha MP Dr Shashi Tharoor.
Ms Priyanka Gandhi had tweeted in Hindi, “Respecting democracy is not the government’s prerogative but it is its responsibility. The atmosphere of fear is like poison for democracy. The BJP government has torn to shreds the dignity of democracy with FIRs against senior journalists and public representatives.”
Cases have been filed against Mr Tharoor and six journalists by the Noida police and at other places for sedition, among other charges, over the violence during the farmers’ tractor rally in Delhi.
