Rajiv Kapoor, brother of late actor Rishi Kapoor, passes away at age 58
Fourth death in Raj Kapoor’s family in quick succession
Rajiv Kapoor, brother of Randhir Kapoor and the late Rishi Kapoor, passed away on Tuesday. He succumbed to a cardiac arrest. He was 58. This is the fourth death in the Kapoor family in the last 28 months.
Rajiv Kapoor is best remembered for his role in Ram Teri Ganga Maili, one of the biggest blockbusters in Hindi cinema of the time.
Rajiv, who has worked in other films like Ek Jaan Hain Hum, had also directed the Rishi Kapoor-Madhuri Dixit starrer Prem Granth. “I don’t know what to say. Rajiv is no more. He was brought to Inlaks General Hospital after he had a cardiac arrest. The doctors did what they could, but were unable to save him,” said a devastated Randhir Kapoor, leaning on a walking stick. While Randhir’s mother Krishna Raj Kapoor died on October 1, 2018, his sister Ritu Nanda died on Jan 14, 2020 and his brother Rishi Kapoor died on April 30, 2020. Rajiv, who had stopped acting a long time ago, had recently completed a film titled Toolsidas Junior, produced by Ashutosh Gowariker and co-directed by Mridul. He was last seen in the 1990 film Zimmedaar. Randhir Kapoor’s daughters Kareena and Karisma and their mother Babita left for the hospital as news of Rajiv’s illness reached the family. Hospital authorities handed over the body to Randhir, who accompanied it to his late brother’s house in Chembur.
Sanjay Kapoor, Maheep Sandhu, Chunkey Pandey, Kareena, Karisma and Babita, Tara Sutaria, Neetu Singh and her son Ranbir Kapoor were among those who visited Rajiv Kapoor’s house. Neetu and her daughter Riddhima also posted about Rajiv’s demise on their Instagram pages.
