- AGE CORRESPONDENT

National Capital Delhi on Tuesday had zero deaths due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. This is the first time in 10 months when no fatality has been reported. The number of fresh cases in Delhi too are on a decline and on Tuesday just 100 tested positive to the virus out 56, 410 tests conducted. The city had recorded 96 coronavirus cases on January 27, the lowest in over nine months.

While Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain said the collective will of the people is gradually winning over the infection, NITI Aayog Member (Health) Dr V.K. Paul termed this as “remarkable.”

“Today no death has been reported due to Covid infection. Delhi’s collective will is gradually winning over the infection. I congratulate the people of Delhi for taking proper precautions and our healthcare and frontline workers who have fought this battle tooth and nail,” Mr Jain said.

Nationwide, only 78 deaths were reported while the fresh cases were 9,110. Delhi is one of the 15

States and Union Territories that have not reported Covid related deaths in the last 24 hours. Besides, there are seven states and UTs that have not reported deaths in last three weeks. Union health secretary said 55 per cent decline in average daily Covid-19 deaths have been reported in the last five weeks.

With overall decline in daily cases and deaths due to Covid-29, Mr Paul said the pandemic situation in the country is now satisfactory. “Cases are coming down. Deaths are consistently under 100 and there have been no deaths in Delhi in the last 24 hours. This is truly remarkable. We have made consistent gains,” said Mr Paul.

At the same time he underlined that there is need for immunization and a herd immunity against the deadly virus can be gained through vaccination. He said experience of vaccination by the beneficiaries are being appreciated and there are very few cases of Adverse Effect From Immunisation (AEFI). “We can confidently say that the strategy to implement vaccination programme and the experience of vaccination is now consistently, very highly rated by the people. Very few have adverse effect which is reassuring that the vaccines are safe. The vaccine hesitancy too is now going away,” said Mr Paul.
