Man, his 3 childhood friends arrested for killing woman

A 21-year-old man has been arrested along with his three childhood friends for allegedly killing a woman who was pressuring him to get married to her, police said on Thursday.

The accused Sumit Kumar, a driver by profession, hatched a conspiracy along with his three friends — Ravi, Arun and Amit — to kill the 32year-old woman, they said.

The woman was pressuring Kumar to get married to her although she was already married, officials said.

Kumar offered his friends `1 lakh to kill the woman and also convinced them to rob the cash and jewellery in her house, police said.

The trio killed the woman on February 8, when she was alone in her house in southwest Delhi’s Kishangarh. She had moved in with her husband to the rented flat on February 1.

Life was disrupted again in most parts of Kashmir on Thursday due to a partial to complete shutdown observed to commemorate the 37th death anniversary of pro-independence leader Muhammad Maqbool Butt.

A similar strike had closed marketplaces and disrupted transport services in many area of the Valley on the anniversary of the hanging of Parliament attack convict Muhammad Afzal Guru on Tuesday.

Butt, co-founder of Jammu Kashmir National Liberation Front (JKNLF), charged with murder of an Indian intelligence officer Amar Chand in Bomai area outside the Valley’s north-western Sopore town way back in mid-1960s was executed in Delhi Tihar jail on February 11, 1984 and, like in the case of Guru who was hanged to death in the same jail on February 9, 2013, his mortal remains were buried inside the prison premises.

Neel Kanth Ganjoo, the judge who awarded capital punishment to Butt after an in-camera trial that took place inside the Srinagar Central Jail, was shot dead.
